How to make friends

Yesterday afternoon, Dmitri received confirmation that we’ll be leaving Mississippi in February and heading to the Lone Star State.

Needless to say, we’re excited. Elated, even.

And we’re fully committed to rooting down, settling in to our new community, and making friends– even though we’ll only be there for a few months. But after our not-so-brief stint as a family of recluses, we’re both struggling with those first day of school fears that I assumed had disappeared forever: What if it’s weird? What if we don’t do well? And what if nobody likes us?

Luckily, I have a secret weapon. If Lily’s gummy grin, Dmitri’s sense of humor and my social awkardness sparkling personality don’t win anyone over, I’m going to have to use it.

Or, rather, these.

Watch out, Texas.

Aunt Marilyn’s M&M Cookies

Cream together:

3/4 cup canola oil

3/4 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup white sugar

2 tsp vanilla

Add:

2 eggs

Mix in:

2 1/4 cups flour

1 tsp sald

1 tsp baking soda

Drop by small scoop on ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate tops (in an orderly fashion :)) with M&M’s. Bake at 375 until lightly browned. Do not overbake.

  1. You can always bribe new friends with some of your delicious baked goods!!!!

  2. I’ve never fixed a brisket. Dave Dotts makes the BEST brisket in his traveling food trailor they take to fair and Old Settlers, etc. I always get one of his beef brisket sandwiches. 🙂

  3. I’ve seen their serving notices in the Herald, but I don’t know him. And I’m thinkin’ he’s probably not going to drive out to Denver to deliver one sandwich, huh?
